http://images.businessweek.com/story/09/600/0204_gregg.jpgJudd Gregg has had a long and successful political career — he served his state as both a governor and a U.S. Senator. He was one of the leading fiscal minds in the GOP, and like most Northeastern Republicans, he was often willing to put aside ideological differences to work with his Democratic colleagues.

Then, the relatively obscure Senator reached national prominence as a pinnacle of bipartisanship by accepting a position in the cabinet of Barack Obama.

Everything seemed to be looking up, but then something happened that would derail this remarkable narrative — Judd Gregg was unplugged from The Obama Machine and became, perhaps, the greatest weapon of the Republican resistance.

Gregg, of course, was nominated as Secretary of Commerce when the Obama Machine was seen as pragmatic, centrist, and open to conservative points of view.

However, upon further examination, Gregg realized he was being used to put a moderate face on an extreme left-wing agenda. As many of us have discovered, Gregg saw that the pragmatic image of Barack Obama was merely an illusion designed to hide reality — a Matrix, if you will.

Hence, when Sen. Gregg withdrew his nomination on principle, the soft-spoken Granite Stater suddenly became an unlikely hero — and judging by his actions — he now seems to be on a mission to lead others into the true reality.

Now that he has returned to his role as one of the Senate’s most astute fiscal conservatives, Gregg may have more power and credibility to derail the Obama agenda than any other Republican. When he went on TV to say that the President’s budget would bankrupt the country , he was not speaking only as a member of the opposition, but as someone who trusted Obama enough to join his administration.

He speaks with the authority of someone who has seen the inner workings — and if he uses that power to “unplug” others from the illusion, he could well be Obama’s most dangerous opponent …
