Tea Party Update: Axelrod and CNN’s Roesgen Embarrassment
Filed under: Republicans, Media, Obama Administration
No surprise that the master of astroturfing would find a true grassroots movement distasteful. To be scrupulously fair, it’s not the parties themselves that he’s calling “unhealthy” but rather the potential of populist anger in an age of economic panic to boil over into more extreme forms. Even so, his intent is clear – to delegitimize the parties by framing them as a shot across the bow from some sort of inchoate militia. The same could have been said years ago, of course, about anti-war protests amid a climate of grotesque hatred on the left for George Bush. Imagine the screeching from the world’s Garofalos had Karl Rove sensed something “unhealthy” about those on a Sunday morning chat show
Axelrod also sticks to the talking points of, “Hey Obama already cut taxes so what are they complaining about?”. More importantly, from a larger perspective, it’s obvious that the tea parties are still making news and dominating the political cycle. Axelrod doesn’t like it. Conclusion: The Tea Parties are now on the Obama enemies list (next to Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, and Bobby Jindal).
In other news CNN is again making themselves part of the news instead of reporting it. Susan Roesgen’s shall-we-say aggressive interviewing style is apparently prompting CNN to claim copyright violations of this particular video to have the interview yanked. Patterico has the story.
