I’m Good Enough, I’m Smart Enough

… and doggone it, people voted for me!
Comedian and attempted pundit Al Franken isn’t happy with the people of Minnesota. On election day, they voted for incumbent Senator Norm Coleman and Franken, apparently, doesn’t feel very affirmed by this. So in keeping with his history of taking from others to benefit himself, it seems that Franken, with the help of duplicitous election officials, is trying to steal the election from the voters.
The race was a close one. Coleman won by a mere 800 votes, one of the smallest margins in the state’s history. The narrowness triggers an automatic recount, which is set to begin on the 19th of November. In advance of that date, Democrats are laying the groundwork to allege fraud. Why? Well if they can take this far enough, Harry Reid and his Senate can become the decision-makers for the seat. Wonder which way they’d go with it?
Al Franken’s attorney alleges there were irregularities in the vote. So far their only example was a shortage of registration documents in Minneapolis. Franken is right, though, that there are irregularities, but they favor him and so he isn’t too worried about those it would seem. In a virtual cascade of statistically absurd changes, the votes are bleeding away from Coleman to Franken … before the recount.
Let’s look at some examples. On Friday, the Director of Elections for Minneapolis produced 32 absentee ballots which had been forgotten in her car. The votes were counted and shifted the numbers toward Franken. Although the chain of integrity of these votes is undeniably broken, Franken will be allowed to keep them. Keep in mind the slim margin here. That is, by far, not all.
How about the town of Mountain Iron? Late on the 6th, they mysteriously added 100 new votes for Obama and Franken. Many Minnesota towns use optical scanning to ensure the integrity of votes. Mountain Iron is one of those towns, and Coleman campaign asked for the tapes in order to verify the amazingly beneficial new votes. The tape is dated November 2nd … as in not election day. The county board of elections claims they cannot produce the election night tape. One hundred mysterious, unaccounted for votes, all mysteriously uniform in supporting the Democrat party line. They’ve since provided additional “explanations” which are even more questionable. I’d call that an irregularity. I guess Franken doesn’t.
In the town of Two Harbors, Al Franken has now picked up an additional 246 votes. Officials there claim they initially erred in their count. It’s an odd claim, considering that the totals have only changed for Franken, not for any of the other races. This is the largest bump Franken has received post election.
Powerline has a set of emails and comments from election officials on the ground in Minnesota here. They are a grim commentary indeed. Franken is dumping money and effort into influencing the recount, including pushing to have rejected ballots counted, sending people to pressure individual election boards, and trying to argue that a vote for Obama was a vote for Franken. The Wall Street Journal nails those and all the most serious elements here. .
All of this, by the way, is being overseen by the highly partisan Democratic Secretary of State Mark Ritchie. Ritchie is a beneficiary of MoveOn and an ally of, you guessed it, ACORN.
Irregularities? You betcha. Some of these towns have explanations which, isolated, seem within the realm of the possible. Yet the irregularities taken together provide a swing toward Franken that is nothing short of miraculous.
It increasingly seems Al Franken, Mark Ritchie, ACORN, and a whole host of Democrats across Minnesota have a plan to put Mr. Franken in office, be it the will of the people or not. There needs to be a recount in Minnesota, that’s true. But someone needs to step in and make this thing happen clean. So far, it’s just plain dirty.
